Yoga in Mysore is certainly not all about practicing Asana. I get ample opportunities to practice the other limbs of ashtanga yoga.
I was eager to begin my asana practice the day after I got into Mysore but was slotted for a batch to start in 3 days (which later got postponed to a week). Frustrated! BUT here's an opportunity presented to practice 'ishwaraparidhana', one of 10 yama/ niymama (abstinence/ observances) . Am loosely defining it as 'surrender" to what is not within ones control. So, I look at it as a blessing as I have more time to settle into my new home.
The entrance to home is beautifully green

Manu Uncle/ Tata is my landlord. His entire family lives opposite the yoga quarters. Its wonderful to have them around as they have become my extended family.

Room numer 3 is mine. I have christened it The 'Om' Room

Inside the living conditions are spartan, to say the least

And one of the main areas - the kitchen. Here, I hope to make some healthy, nutritious & nourishing food. The SIMPLER, THE BETTER!

A week later, I am still in the process of personalising the space, making it a bit more homely. Its a steady process (like yoga is), the more you live in the space, the more lived in it gets.
In the meanwhile, I jazzed up the wall a little bit with a backdrop of a favourite 'rockstar'

Shiva |
"In the yogic culture, Shiva is not known as a God, but as the first Guru or the Adi Guru. He is the Adi Yogi or the first Yogi. Out of his realisation, he became ecstatic and danced all over the mountains or sat absolutely still. He was constantly into bouts of stillness and bouts of mad dancing. All the gods who saw him, saw something was happening to him that they themselves did not know. Suddenly heaven felt like a bad place, because this guy is having such a good time! They felt, "We are missing out on something." When they finally got him to teach the method, Shiva expounded various types of yogas depending upon the level of preparedness of the person who was sitting in front of him."
