Draw away to Draw in

On mention of leaving Bangalore, to practice yoga in Mysore.... I get asked thought-provoking questions...

- are you going for a re-fresher?
- is it an advanced yoga program?
- are you getting re-certfied.... re-trained?
- are you developing new skills & knowledge?
- 2 whole months ! What will you do with all that time?
- why do you need to be there for 2 months, can you not refresh your skills in a 2 weeks, intensive program? etc.

I contemplate upon...

Why do i choose to move away briefly each year?

.... the essence distills through the processing...crystal clear to me... explained in three powerful & beautiful sanskrit words  - "Tapasya" , "Sadhana" & "Swadhaya".

The yoga practice teaches me to go deeper into subcutaneous levels ...so I delve deeper into the meanings of these powerful words.

Simply put;
  • "Tapasya" is any process to reach special observations and insights
  • "Sadhana" is a repeated, consistent discipline undertaken in the pursuit of a goal performed with observation & reflection
  • And "Swadhya"; means engaging in periods of self-study
In yogic tradition, the words have a evolved & deeper meaning - "Tapasya is the fire that burns within, needed for the sanyasi to achieve the very difficult goal of enlightenment, to foster self control, one mindedness and focus, simplicity, wisdom, integrity". Through consistent, sometime arduous 'sadhana', "it is used to develop and discipline the body, mind and character; control of mind; and complete fulfillment/ridding all desires - through discipline of body, correct speech, telling only the truth, correct thought, non violence, correct action, love for all, devotion to god, developing the ability to remain tranquil and balanced in every situation, act without any selfish motive or thought of reward, with an unshakable faith in god" (Wikipedia)

For me... for now...  'tapasya' 'sadhana' & 'swadhaya' roll into a single meaning - "I make a deep commitment to my 'lower & higher self' to engage in self-study while moving inward into the practice...into the body, mind and spirit spaces", with an ultimate purpose of better understanding of the mysteries of creation.

I thereby, draw away to draw in!

  1. You don't need to go away for tapasya or sadhana, most mortals do that as a daily habit in this ever changing world. Swadhya is a constant filtering exercise, but sure you could get a weekend away. If its months then something is terribly wrong or the knots are too big.

My diagnosis says - commitment issues frankly :) . You like to wipe your slate way too often. But you are the psychology expert here.
